how to make a website for free

My name is Shannon McFerran, and I was born and have lived most of my life in the Vancouver Island communities located in the traditional territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ, Lekwungen and Songhees Peoples. This land has hosted me and four generations of my family before me, and I'm deeply grateful to be here.

I studied Creative Writing at the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia. After I graduated from my MFA, I pretty much wrote stories and kept working on how to write a novel in the mornings and evenings and on weekends. I still do! For twenty years I've also worked in the education field. I taught secondary English, and for a year I taught academics in the Arrowsmith program. For six years, I worked in regional and academic libraries. (I even got to be the storytime lady one summer!)  I also work for my own writing and learning design company, but since 2010, I've been with Open School BC as a project manager and writer.

I live with my husband and daughter and our cantankerous feline and very sweet doggo. Our home is tucked away in a small a Garry oak forest on top of a hill not far from a marshland sanctuary in the heart of the city. Sometimes I see owls in my front yard.

If you're interested in booking a school visit or library event, I'd love to hear from you
